Our Mini Mudroom Goes Black and White

Our mini mudroom got a little bit of an update over the last couple of weeks.  If you have been following my blog for awhile, you may be wondering why I am decorating the mudroom again since I only completed it about a year ago.  It all started with some washi tape crosses that I tried out on the back wall.  If you follow me on instagram you would have seen them in progress earlier.  Once I started adding black and white to the wall I just kept adding more black and white throughout the rest of the space until I redid the whole space.  Yup, it's a little bit nutty especially since the rest of the house is in renovation chaos, but it was a nice distraction from all the renovation mess.

Here's what the mudroom looks like now (my littlest is checking it out with you) :)
I apologize for the weird lighting/lack there of above the closet.  I couldn't figure out how to get light up there.

Here's a picture of what the mudroom looked like last year:

It's definitely a lot more neutral now.  One of the bigger changes is this new cage light that I made.  I'll share the how to for it in another post.

I also switched out the blue coat knobs to unfinished wood ones and removed the turquoise blanket stitch from the baskets.  You can find the how to for the coat knobs here and the blanket stitched baskets here.

The 'n' from the artwork stayed.  I just painted the edge black.  The striped artwork is another DIY.

The paint by numbers I found at Mummu's.  It's mine, but for some reason a few of these paintings were being stored in her basement and I had forgotten all about them.  I like the colours in it and I like the vintage feel of it in relation to the more modern light and other artwork.  It's probably the most colourful thing in the space right now.

I'm thinking these washi tape crosses are going to be pretty temporary.  We'll see how long they stay up.  I have a feeling that one day one of the boys will get curious and start taking them off.  For now they add a little interest and it won't be a problem at all to take them down if I get tired of them.

Another one of our patio pillows is on the bench and Nalle's bowls remained the same since they were black and white already.  The basket corrals so shoes.

This little one liked his view of the backyard and the squirrels from the bench. :)

    1. Thanks Ina! I am missing the Marimekko too - although there is a little still in there. Maybe I'll have to add my unikko pillow too.

  7. Love version 2.0! I wouldn't worry about your washi tape crosses. Sure, they might get a little rearranged but I think they'll manage to stay on the walls ; ]

    1. Thanks Jennifer. At least the crosses are just washi tape - I can always replace them. :)
