Hei Anu! I just stumbled upon your blog and it made my day. While I am not from Finland, my mother is. We have visited many many times and I am crazy about anything Marimekko, iittala (especially the Toikka birds, I have 6) and muumi of course. I see so many items in your house that I have and more importantly that I want lol. I too live in Canada and wondered where you buy your marimekko products from? I am specifically looking for some wallpaper which I too can turn into art. Kiitos!
Discovered you via House of Hepworths today. I enjoy finding other people who have homes with quirk, rather than the standard traditional design that I see most often on blogs. Love all your mid-century modern pieces!
Hello Anu, your house is beautiful and a wonderful inspiration for our new home! Where did you get these grey dining chairs with the wooden legs? Love them!
Hi Sandra, We purchased the dining table and chairs from Craigslist. The chairs are the Saarinen Executive Chair made by Knoll: http://www.knoll.com/products/product.jsp?prod_id=816. I believe they were originally purchased from Hollace Cluny in Toronto. They are really fantastic chairs and super comfortable! I hope that helps.
Wow, gorgeous home. I can't show this to my husband or he will tell me to get rid of half our stuff:) I love you clean and white yet colorful and eclectic it is - you can really see your scandanavian influences. My husband and I are both Scandanavian Canadian too. Great blog!! I'm a new follower now:) Krista @thehappyhousie.com
I came across your blog today and I just spent 20 wonderful minutes getting completely lost in your beautiful home! I'm a new follower and cant wait to see what you come up with next! ~ Sarah
Ok Im hooked - love your style and mix of patterns. You must smile everytime you walk in your front door it looks like such a fun and happy home to live in :) You've got me, Im your newest follower.
I love the flow from one space to another, the organic lines and just the right amount of objects. This is a feasible, realistic interior that conveys a confident serenity and positive energy. It feels classic even with some bold choices. It's inspiring. It shows more than just things, it shows a way of living and thinking, and I love it. Where did you get your sofas made? (sorry if this has been answered too already). I was thinking about the Thrive company, but am looking for other alternatives. Thank you!
Thanks so much for your comment! We had our sofa made locally in Toronto, Canada (http://www.perrifinefurniture.com), but they botched the dimensions of the sofa quite a bit (it was too short and the seat height was a little too tall). We'll likely have to get another sofa for our living room down the road and will likely go elsewhere to get it made. Thrive looks like they have great mid century style sofas. The sofa we have is similar in style to the Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams "Clifton" sofa: http://www.mgbwhome.com/CLIFTON-SOFA-P8601.aspx. Getting the sofa custom made really gave us a better quality piece at a more reasonable price. I think next time I will have to pay closer attention during the construction process to make sure the dimensions are right!
That's a shame about your sofa experience, better luck next time. Not sure if this would be any help to you: http://www.stylegarage.com/products1/sofas-sectionals/sofas-sectionals.shtml
Love your aesthetic. Always been a fan of ranch style houses. You have done a wonderful makeover ~ airy, bright, welcoming and comfortable. All the best with your plans for remodelling the basement. That will give you tons more living space for your growing family. :) p.s. my name is Ana and I live in Toronto
We checked out those sofas before. They are really nice and clean in style. Maybe we'll have to check them out again when it's time to buy a new one. :) Thanks for stopping by today!
I also just stumbled on your blog via Apartment Therapy. I love your aesthetic. Did you recover the DR chairs? They're beautiful! And I assume they're original, not knockoff? What is your opinion on buying knockoffs? Having a hard time finding vintage MCM chairs in my budget.
The dining room chairs are Saarinen executive chairs by knoll with the original upholstery (dristi sky was the colour). We found our dining room set on Kijiji and that saved us a lot of money. The Arne Jacobsen white chairs are knockoffs we bought for our first house. They are really great quality as we bought ones that were made in Canada and were restaurant quality. Now that we live in a smaller space we are being pretty careful of what we purchase and would love to be able to add more original quality furniture. I do notice differences in the design and overall quality of original albeit more pricer furniture. Thanks so much for stopping by!
Anu, your home is exceptionally beautiful!! Would you please advise if you purchased the turquoise clock online?? If so, might you share the site. Love it!!! Have to have one!. Thank-You.
Thanks so much! The clock was purchased from HomeSense in Canada (it's the same as HomeGoods in the States). It does have the name George Nelson on the front, but I don't think it's an original. Good Luck!
Hello Anu, thanks to share with us your beautiful house : good harmonies with the turquoise blue in the kitchen and the blue sky in the kid's bedrooms : it's lovely ! I will visit other times your blog, I sware !

DeleteLove your home. Very clean and minimal. We are working toward this style in our home. What is the paint color in the nursery stripes? Like it.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much! The blue paint colour in the stripes is Benjamin Moore Palladian Blue and the white is Cloud White also by Benjamin Moore.
DeleteAnu, I love your house. It's so airy, bright and clean.
