DIY Paper Bag Modern Art

Do you remember the striped art I added to the mudroom?  I've received some questions about it and thought I'd share how I made it.  It's super complicated and requires a ton of artistic ability. ;)  If you scroll down you'll see just how complicated it was, but maybe you've already guessed how I made it from the title of this post.
The other day, I (being the constant rearranger and not very good tidy-upper that I am) tried out the new art in a different spot in our living room and snapped some pictures of it to let you see it in more detail.  The grouping is actually all DIY art.  I really need to start collecting some more "real" art (the number art tutorial can be found here if you're interested).

…And here's what I made it out of:
Yup, a Marimekko shopping bag!  This isn't the first repurposed art I have made though.  I also made this piece in our living room from some wrapping paper (Marimekko, of course!).  My mom always saved the nice gift wrap to reuse and I think I get that gift wrap hoarding gene from her.  The only difference is that I tend to make things out of gift wrap rather than rewrapping with it.  Come to think of it, I even made some Easter decorations out of gift wrap.  Did I mention that I need to get some "real" art? :)  I do like my DIY art too especially since it's a simple way to add in some of the Marimekko patterns that I love.

Here are a couple of pictures to remind you of my DIY paper bag art in our mini mudroom makeover.
So what do you think?  Are you a fan of DIY art?  Do you hoard pretty paper and gift wrap too or am I the only one?

Have a great weekend and Happy Mother's Day to all the mommys!

  5. This is my FAVORITE kind of art. Just a random item with a nice pattern :) It's why I have a hard time throwing away packaging... who knows what it'll look like in a frame!
