It's been a little quiet on the blog here as of late, but the boys and I have been busy trying to get better and get a little Christmas crafting/decorating done. We still haven't gotten our tree, but we'll be getting it by the weekend if both boys are well enough. I just love how it feels so much more Christmassy once the tree is up.
Today I wanted to share with you a super easy craft that both my boys enjoyed. I took some wrapping paper and painted a simple white tree on it for the boys to decorate. I'm getting them ready for the real thing. I even had them use pompoms in our Christmas ornament colours. :) For Little Pilot I added his favourite colour (orange) by using some cut up paper straws strung on baker's twine for a garland.
Co-pilot made the little tree. I wasn't sure about letting him do this craft because of the small pieces, but he was so upset when he couldn't make one too. Luckily, Mummu stopped by to help supervise while I took my photos. He was so fun when trying to decorate his tree. He would just throw the pompoms at the tree hoping they would stick (or probably liked seeing them bounce). Oh, but was it ever important for him to craft along with Mommy!
**the small pompoms can be a choking hazard for babies/small children. If you would like to attempt this craft with your toddler be sure to have control of the pieces while helping your child. Your child should never be left unsupervised with small pieces or glue.**
Little Pilot's tree was bigger and he got a couple of extra decorations including the paper straw garlands and some gold paint circles made with a straw. He refused to paint the gold on the tree though. Maybe he thought the dots had to go with the polka dots on the paper?
By the time the glue had dried, Co-pilot was down for a nap so Little Pilot stood solo for these pictures. I taped their trees to one of the small walls between the kitchen and dining room. Their creations are right in our dining room where everyone can see them. Little Pilot was so excited to show off his tree. Co-pilot noticed his tree on the wall right away when he woke up and was sure to show it to Daddy when he got home from work. Sometimes the simplest little activities/crafts can bring so much joy!
This craft took very little time to put together. I just used what supplies I had on hand, but it was so fun and rewarding to watch my boys create and see their reactions to the finished product. I hope you are inspired to take a few minutes to do a simple craft with your kids and display it proudly in your home. :)
So cute! I love this idea Anu :) xo Kristin
ReplyDeleteThanks Kristin. My boys had a lot of fun with it. :)
DeleteI adore this! So simple and beautiful. It's kid friendly but something you'd love to have decorating your halls!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad my little guys didn't mind my colour choices for their crafts. They seem to just enjoy the process at this stage. :)
DeleteWhat a great craft! And how cute it Co-Pilot with his concentrated look on his face when decorating his tree. :)
ReplyDeleteOh, you should have seen how upset he was getting when I was prepping the craft and he had to wait for the tree to dry before he could glue! He surprises me everyday with how much he understands and wants to be a part of everything. It's so sweet.
DeleteHow cute! It looks like they had so much fun doing this project :)
ReplyDeleteThey really enjoyed it. It was pretty quick so it kept their attention pretty well too.
DeleteLove it!
