I have officially jumped on the chalkboard band wagon. We were technically already on the wagon a couple of years ago in Little Pilot's nursery, but this time I painted a chalkboard directly on the wall. I finished it in time for the rescheduled "Kettu" (translation = "fox") Party and it ended up being the perfect spot to greet our guests and play a game of "pin the tail on the fox". Unfortunately, the chalkboard is in a dark corner of my kitchen and it was super tricky for me to get enough light for better photos, but I think you can get the idea.
I was approached by Lullaby Paints to do a review of their chalkboard paint. I jumped at the chance as their paints are the safest paints available which is so important for families with babies and young children not to mention the environment in general. I really love that Lullaby paints is committed to providing parents with safe, quality paint to use in their home. I received the All-in-one Chalkboard kit in black. It came with the paint, foam roller, tray, tape and some chalk (in the white envelope).
To make my chalkboard I drew my rectangle using a level. I then taped off the edges and painted my rectangle. I ended up using three coats of the paint for my large rectangle. Two coats were probably enough, but I added a third thin coat for good measure. I let the paint dry between coats and didn't try scoring/writing on it until the next day.
Here's a quick look at the corner before and after. You may also notice that I added a few DIY birch branch hooks and I will be sharing a DIY for them soon. I also have my favourite felted acorn garland hanging there. The light switches stand out quite a bit in the white, but Tech Guy has ordered new black ones that hopefully will blend in better.
I'm really happy with this chalkboard and the quality of the paint. I haven't noticed much rubbing off of the paint as I have cleaned it. Little Pilot loves to draw on the bottom half and the top half has been great for adding a seasonal message/decor or even jotting down a few notes. I am in love with my birch hooks and they have been perfect for hanging tea towels, bibs, etc.
Overall, I am so pleased with Lullaby Paints chalkboard paint and will definitely consider ordering from them again in the future. The chalkboard is a fun addition to our space.
Disclosure: I was given a Lullaby Paints All-In-One Chalkboard Kit to review, but all opinions are 100% mine. As always, I only try to review products that I love and would use in my own home as well.
It doesn't even look like a dark corner. So pretty and I adore the branch hooks!
ReplyDeleteThanks Julia. :)
DeleteI love our chalk wall. We have one in the kitchen too. :) Our vent is below the chalk wall as well, and we have had a few pieces roll down the vent. :) oops.
ReplyDeleteI love your chalk wall too. :) I really like having one in our kitchen now. We just switched our heating from forced air to radiant so that vent needs to be removed and the hole filled in. If chalk does go through there it will end up straight down in our basement. :)
DeleteLove it in there. I love Lullaby Paints too :) Nice knowing it's safe for the everyone! xo Kristin
ReplyDeleteThanks Kristin. It's great that the paint is so safe!
Deletelove it! those hooks are awesome!
ReplyDeleteThanks Cassie. I'm really happy with how the hooks turned out.
DeleteIt looks great, I love those hooks!

Thanks!
DeleteOh I love it so much! It looks great. I love that they provide everything you need to do the project in the little kit. That makes is very convenient!
ReplyDeleteThe all-in-one package definitely is convenient and I loved that the paint was in a pouch. It made for a lot less mess and waste.
DeleteLove it! My chalkboard wall is in a dark corner of my kitchen, too, and I feel a pang of regret every time I see someone posting great posed pictures in front of their well lit chalkboard walls. oh well!
ReplyDeleteMaybe we should form a "chalkboard in a dark corner" support group. ;) I loved your chalkboard wall.
DeleteThose hooks are awesome! Can't wait for the tutorial! I loved having a chalkboard wall at our last house. They're so much fun for kids!
ReplyDeleteThanks Amber. My little guy really enjoyed drawing on it, but he kept wanting me to wipe whatever he drew off right away. :)
DeleteThis is GORGEOUS! I'd be tempted to try and use a white chalkboard pen to draw a calendar grid on the top (because the tatty armload of bunched up papers hanging off a Disney calendar with a clothes peg on the back of the door is shameful!)
ReplyDeleteI really want to do a chalkboard wall in the kitchen as well. Lucky you to have such great products to review. The kids look like theyre loving it too :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I love the little swag over it too. And the boys are basically adorbs. :)
ReplyDeleteI love your kitchen chalkboard wall! So pretty and functional too.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much! It is a fun little addition to our kitchen.
