FALL OUTDOOR DECOR

This post should probably have been titled, "How to Distract you from Construction Mud & Plywood Walkways".  Since we did our basement waterproofing, we have been living in a muddy state on the outside of our house.  Our front walkway was ripped out and we have a plywood plank leading to the front step.  It looks so nice. ;).  I did want to add some fall decor to our front porch though and it helps distract you from the ugliness outside, kinda sorta .  As per usual, my decor is pretty minimal, but does let you know it's fall.  I added some mums, pumpkins (for the boys' photos), birch branches and leaves in a wire basket as well as a DIY wreath.

I made this wreath from book pages and I think it's my favourite part.  I will be sharing the how to next week. (**update:  you can find the tutorial here).

The birch branches were placed in a wire basket from Target and then wrapped together with a little twine.   I added some of the leaves that are all over our yard for some nice fall colour.

Little Pilot is already practicing for his pumpkin photo. :)

Did I succeed in distracting you from all the construction mess?  Do you like to decorate for fall?  I'm happy that our front door looks a little more inviting for Thanksgiving and for my boy's shared birthday party.

  1. I love keeping things minimalistic but still festive =). Your flowers and pumpkins are perfect! I have a huge construction mess going on in front of our house too (insulation + new siding) but you've inspired me to try to pretty up the entrance a little bit and keep it homey!

  8. Your little guy is a bashful cutie. Such a sweetheart. They love to be included in all the fun.
I couldn't wait til next week for the tutorial for your leaf wreath. Had to print out the photo of it so I can get a head start. I have a wreath on door now but like yours much better, might hang one like yours on old window in our room, will look great there. I like to change up things. Have an old mirror on window now but will hang wreath over it. Look forward to your post about it next week.
I didn't even notice any mess around anywhere.
I love "meeting" new bloggers on these parties, great way to find blogs I haven't been on before. Happy days ahead.

  9. I would not have even noticed the plywood if you hadn't pointed it out, that's how well you distracted me :). Love your wreath....We have no awning over our front door and no storm door, so if I made one it would only last until the first time it rained...but I wish I could!

    1. I'm so happy that we have a few birches in our yard and that they're big. I've been trying to figure out how to fit some more in our yard, but there are so many trees already. Your move is coming up fast. Happy packing. :)
