POM-POM PILLOW

The pom-pom madness continues!  Here is where I put those perfect pom-poms I blogged about last time.
Aren't they cute?  Little Pilot said, "ne nayttaa niinkuin korvat!" = "they look like ears!" and Tech Guy said, they look like they should be on a clown.  I think I like Little Pilot's description better.  :)

I do like how the pillow turned out.  It was a store-bought pillow that I already had (I originally showed it to you here).  The wool I used for the pom-poms is a baby alpaca/merino blend and is super soft and fuzzy which I quite like.  I think the pom-poms are perfect for the fall and add a little more interest and texture to the pillow.

Ah, Little Pilot would only sit for this picture if I let him scroll through the photos on my iPhone (he likes to find the videos of himself).  Poor little guy has eczema on those feet.  We can't seem to win the battle with eczema.  It tends to finally get better just to resurface again.  Anyone have any suggestions for creams or other treatments for a toddler/preshooler?

So this project is probably as simple as it gets for a DIY.

Pom-Pom Pillow How To:

1.  Grab a throw pillow.  Here's what mine looked like before it got attacked by my pom-pom craziness. :)  It has a nice woven dark side and a linen light side.
2.  Make your perfect pom-poms using this tutorial

3.  Sew a pom-pom to each corner by sewing the yarn that you used to secure your pom-pom (step 2) as close to the middle of the pom-pom as you can.

4.  Trim the excess yarn to the length of the pom-pom strands.

Lastly, Here's a shot of the pillow in our living room:

I have made a few changes in this room over the summer and am in the process of looking for a new rug so stay tuned for some more living room updates soon!

Have a great weekend friends!

    1. I really like the colour too. I think we had it matched to a random curtain rod finial when the sofa was made. :)

  5. love to read your blog.....I don't have any decorating advice but you did ask about things to try for the eczema, so here's what has worked for us. I live in the same area and our water in highly chlorinated, so add 1 handful of baking soda to every bath he has, it decreases the chlorine, Eucerine body lotion with 10% urea (at shopper's drug ) and 100% cotton near his skin. Good luck!

    1. Oh, thanks so much for your tips. I really appreciate that you took the time to share them. I hadn't heard of the baking soda before, but it makes sense! I will definitely try it.

  6. I just love the pillow. I don't just want to add pom-poms to a pillow but I want to recreate that pillow. I have a similar grey, just need the linen. It is so cute.
As for eczema, it is a chronic allergic condition but with no known allergen that triggers the rash. Some people find hot water, certain soaps, lotions or such can trigger a reaction. It's common in those with asthma and allergies. Many suggest that cutting out dairy significantly improves eczema.
For natural products to treat it, we have found aloe vera and calendula lotion help- and both are pretty safe for little people.

    1. I really liked that the neutral colours of the pillow allow all the woven and wool textures stand out.
Thanks also for your suggestions. The paediatrician has told us the same about the unknown allergen. We have some calendula cream that we use which works so-so for him. It just seems like a cream works for a while and then it is no longer effective? I wonder if it's just that when it really flares up there's not much you can do or rather not much that will help?

  8. Love your house and all your decorations. I have a daughter with eczema. I use a cream called Vanicream. It's found at Target behind the pharmacy counter or at Walgreens on the shelf by the Cetaphil and other eczema stuff. They have a bars of soap, cream, even sunscreen. I used to work at a daycare and a mom told me about this cream. I put in on her son 3x in one day and by the time she picked him up his eczema flare up was GONE! I have even used this on myself when I run out of my face cream. This cream is amazing and works wonders! It's a little expensive but you a little goes a long way.
