NEW FURNITURE FOR THE SHARED ROOM

Against all reason and advice I went and got the boys new beds.

The beds are technically used, but new to my boys.  Before I go into the details about the beds, I'll try to justify my furniture switcheroo. This may be quite the feat, but I'll try.  Here goes.
Firstly, I really wanted to have the beds on the same side of the room.  The previous beds just didn't fit no matter how I tried to rearrange them.  The crib was too long and tall and the toddler bed was too wide.  So these new secondhand beds worked perfectly and I can actually open the closet doors(not visible here, but on the wall next to the crib) to boot!
Secondly, I needed more storage, namely, the dresser that I just refinished.  The dresser would not have fit with a bed beside it.
Lastly, I'm probably just nuts, but changing up the furniture just worked and made me happy. :)

The beds were both found on craigslist.  My purchase/thought process went something like this:  Little Pilot's (old) toddler bed is not working.  Do I paint it or look for another one?  I really like this one by Oeuf.  I wonder if it's available on Craigslist?  Oh, yay, it is!

It was a great price so we went and picked it up.

Now with the new toddler bed at home, my thought process continued:  Oh, Co-pilot's (old) crib looks so huge and the wood tones of the beds still don't match.  I wonder what cribs Oeuf has in that same finish?  Oh, I really like the Sparrow crib.  It has the same walnut finish, but it's not totally matchy-matchy which would be great.  Hmm...Craigslist?  Yes, the crib is there and in walnut!  I wonder if Tech Guy will let me go for it?

You know the answer to that last question already.   In the end, both boys got new beds and they function really well in their space.

I'm going to show you Co-Pilot's crib first.  He's ready to make a jail break here. :)

I really like the simplicity of this crib.  I think the style is much more us than the crib we had previously.  It has a bit of a Scandinavian modern feel to it.  The walnut is a medium brown that has some grey to it so it doesn't read red at all which I also like.  There's nothing happening on the wall in terms of decor yet, but I have a little DIY that involves yarn in the works.

Little Pilot's toddler bed makes me smile.  I think it looks a little like a mini hospital bed.  You'd think having worked in hospitals before that I would be deterred by that, but I really kind of like it.  He's really excited about it too!

Actually, he was a little more excited about Mummu flying all these planes into his room to line-up on the windowsill. :)

The beds are pretty close together.  I'm toying with the idea of using the bunny shelf as a little side table (i.e., lowering it and moving it to the right).  It would save some space, but still function as a side table.  I also clipped that vintage light to the shelf to see how adding some yellow to the space might look.  Little Pilot loves orange though.  So I may have to add some orange accents to the room.  We'll see.  It's still up in the air at this point.

So that's a little furniture update in the boys room.  The room is still far from done, but the furniture layout I've got figured out, I think!  Now I'm just wishing that time would stand still for a little so that the boys will be able to use these beautiful beds longer!

Anyone else been doing the furniture shuffle or scored something great off of Craigslist?

  1. You were lucky to find the beds in Craigs list. I just got rid of my little miss's crib through craigs list. She got her big sister's bed and big sister a new one from...... TA DAAAAAA: IKEA! :D HAH! The room is looking lovely. Can't wait what else you come up with.

  2. We have the Oeuf Sparrow crib in grey in a looooove it. My daughter is a chewer and she has chewed that thing to death and it still looks great. We also have the change table which is a mix of maple and grey and it's held up amazingly well - such great quality. That toddler bed is beautiful (as beautiful as a toddler bed can be anyhow!)

  4. That's the most stylish crib I've ever seen! Doing the "furniture shuffle" ... is that a DIY'er dance move, haha, that seems to be my only form of exercise ;) Robin
