Today is very exciting over here at the old blog! I have teamed up with 5 other bloggers to create a virtual dream home furnished entirely with Ikea products. Here are all the lovely ladies that have each designed a room for our Ikea house:
I was lucky enough to get the living room and for inspiration I used this image:
It features Cole and Son "Woods" wallpaper which the Finn in me loves. I haven't met a Finn who doesn't like birch trees! I also loved the walnut tones in the furniture with the white accessories. If I could have started the boys' room from scratch I would have loved to put some of this wallpaper up. I think it would look so nice with their new beds. Maybe I can put some in our basement if we ever get to the point of actually decorating and not just renovating! :)
Let's take a look at the living room I came up with for the Ikea Dream Home:
I cheated a little in that I have the "Woods" wallpaper in there, but absolutely everything else is Ikea. The colour scheme is largely black and white with walnut. I added colour (yellow, blue and orange) via accessories. Many of the items I chose ended up being from the Stockholm line (maybe because it had lots of walnut wood!).
Because I have a lot of pattern going on with the wallpaper and rug, I kept the sofa and other furniture largely white/neutral. I really love the Stockholm chairs that flank the sofa. They remind me of wishbone chairs. I added a little sheepskin to soften them up a bit and to add texture. There definitely seems to be a bit of an industrial modern vibe to the place. The metal mirror, coffee table and display cabinet are all kind of industrial, but in a clean way. The accessories in the room were chosen to add colour and to play up the natural "woods" theme in the wallpaper (e.g., botanical print, woven basket, deer figurine).
Lastly, I added some DIY projects to the space! I just couldn't help it! :)
Did you notice them in the mood board? The first DIY above is to make two light fixtures from the Anegnam bowl to hang over the coffee table or on either side of the sofa. You would have to buy a light kit, but I think you could totally turn it over and make it into a pendant! I also thought it would be fun to spray paint the Samspelt deer to a colour that suited the room a little better. The Vittsjo nesting tables got a little glammed up with some gold dipped legs. Lastly, sewing your own throw pillows is a great way to customize your decor.
So what do you think of my virtual Ikea Living Room?

Your IKEA hacks immediately jumped out at me and I thought that was just fantastic. I love the bowls as pendants and your gold dipped legs and I can see that deer being spray painted by every blogger out there in every color. That was such a great idea. Love your living room!
ReplyDeleteThanks Katja, I just couldn't resist adding a couple of hacks. :)
DeleteI love the gold dipped legs with your pendants! They look incredible together. I love that little deer too especially in blue!
ReplyDeleteI'm really liking how the gold looks with the black. That deer is just too cute! :)
DeleteI love that TV unit! I saw it in person a few weeks ago while I was there with some friends and they had to pull me away. This year's Stockholm collection is fabulous.
ReplyDeleteI love that they've added some walnut pieces this year. It's a nice change from the really dark stains.
DeleteI love this room even though there's no green sofa in there ;). The idea for the light fixture is great and the gold dipped legs on the table! And I love the touches of a more industrial look with the cabinet and the metal table.
ReplyDeleteI really love that green sofa too! I guess I just wasn't brave enough to design a whole room around it. I was kind of looking for it in your bathroom design though. ;)
DeleteWhat a fun thing to do! And Surprise surprise to find that particuar wallpaper in your living room. Ive been drooling over it as long as its been there. You've collected a great combination of items that create a lovely room. :)
ReplyDeleteIt's a fantastic paper. I love that it has an almost stippled look to the image when you look up close.
