PILLOW IT UP

I seem to get into a bit of a trend with my DIYing.  I have been sewing a lot lately (at least for me):  baskets, a clutch and lots of pillows.  There are lots of painting and outdoor projects I want to tackle as well, but this Spring has been so cold that I'm indoors sewing!  I like to paint furniture etc. outside to keep the fumes out of the house.  So long story short, I have begun to pillow up my lonely couch and here she is:

I made both of the pillows below.  The white longer pillow is made from some leftover Marimekko Lumimarja fabric that I used for the curtains.  The multi-coloured chevron I picked up from the fabric store.  It has all the colours of our living and dining rooms in it.  The blue is the same as our dining room chairs (our chairs are really a light blue although they tend to photograph grey), the chartreuse is the same as the colour in the Marimekko Unikko pillows and the black goes with all the black and white art I made (you can see them here and here).  You might recognize this fabric from Co-Pilot's 6 month photos.

On the other side of the sofa I have the lonely pillow and a plain linen one I picked up that I am planning to embroider, paint, cross stitch...Oh, I haven't really decided yet. :)

Here are some more pictures of the sofa.  I always have a hard time taking photos of the sofa since I'm fighting that massive bow window behind it.  The pictures tend to turn out a little dark.  But I'm thinking the sofa's looking a little less lonely now. :)

Also, just in case you were wondering what the status of our club chair is... It also got a new pillow friend that's sporting some blue, grey and graphic pattern.  Oh, and didn't this chair photograph so much better with our large window working with it?  No crazy backlight, yay!  The boys have their toys in the back corner and the family photos above are also on my list to be updated.

Now here's the before (One lonely sofa!)...

and the after...

Much less lonely!  Overall, I'm really happy with the mix of colour, pattern and scale of the pillows.  I still have one pillow cover that I am planning to knit.  I already have the yarn picked out.  Now if I can just find the time to knit!

  1. Love that chevron fabric! (all of them are lovely, but that's my favorite). And I'm very impressed with how the photo turned out with the giant window right behind it. And I spotted your old school Little People barn--yay!

    1. Hi Selina, The chevron fabric was from Fabricland and the rug is from rugs USA. I had to pay a little duty when I shipped it to Canada, but they have great sales (like 75% off) that still made it a great buy. Thanks for your lovely comment!
