I've finally finished and photographed my other DIY art. I decided to paint some numbers on a canvas that are significant to us. I'll let you try and figure out how. :) I think they add a nice graphic punch to the other side of the fireplace and it continues with the same black and white theme as the Marimekko art I shared a couple of days ago. It's not perfect, but as a friend of the family might say, "Kylla se kelpaa Nalle's Houssille" (It's good enough for Nalle's House). I actually like it when things aren't super perfect.
I am not a painter and haven't really painted anything since 9th grade art class, so I printed off the numbers and traced them onto the canvas before I started painting. The font is stardos stencil and is free to download here. One thing I did to make the numbers easier to trace was to leave the open parts of the number attached and trace the overall shape first. This kept the spacing in tact.
Here are some more pictures for you to peruse.
Finally, Here is the before and after...
I think it looks a lot less bare now and I'm really liking the black and white. I haven't decided yet whether the number art needs a frame. For now, I'm leaving it as is, but I might change my mind in a couple of minutes (I tend to be quite indecisive). :) Our pillow situation in this room is a little lacking at the moment and I think my next step will be to hunt down some fun fabrics to make pillow covers. The string on the fireplace is the very beginnings of my Spring mantle...consider this a tiny sneak peek. :)
What do you think? Do you like the black and white? Should I add a frame to the canvas? I'd love to hear your feedback. :)
